However hard times get, I will never stop working for Walthamstow.
It is my home and my passion. My track record as your local MP shows I know how to make change happen and I am not afraid to stand up for the needs of this community. It shows that I can put principles into action for powerful results. Now we must fight for the future of our community and our country.
In 2018 I’m asking for your help and your voice to speak up for the following:
- An open and proud country which seeks to cooperate with our European neighbours
I voted against the Article 50 legislation because Britain cannot afford to close the door to investment, jobs and talent. Now we have the opportunity to fight for membership of the single market, for reforming freedom of movement, not ending it and for the rights of EU citizens.
- The healthcare and housing our community desperately needs
Cuts to health and social care are hurting many in our community. Too many people in Walthamstow are struggling to keep a roof above their heads. We urgently need investment in social housing as well as to tackle the rental and property market. And we need to make sure people not profits are at the centre of our NHS.
- Schools that will help our young people succeed
Our local schools face budget cuts of up to 20%. Many of our young people struggling to stay in university or college. Local potential is going to waste. With more than one in ten residents self employed, it’s vital for the future of our economy and our education to invest in skills and support services to help them succeed. Whilst this Government has cut this funding, now we must lead the fight for an education service and economy fit for the 21st century.
